So, you want some ink, huh?
Welcome to the club! I bet you’re wondering how you’re going to find the perfect tattoo, and then get an artist to do it just right, aren’t you? You’re probably here because you’ve heard of Chopper Tattoo (click to visit official site) and wanted to see what others think of it.
Well, I’ve recently started using Chopper Tattoo and I love it. But before I tell you why, I want to tell you what it was like when I got my first tattoo in the 90’s. It turns out that this is what it’s like for most people today, too.
Okay, so back when I started getting inked, no one really had the Internet. Only nerds and geeks were using it, and the rest of us looked at them funny. There were no real tattoo websites at the time, and certainly no galleries like Chopper Tattoo.
Do you know what I had to do? The process went something like this:
1. Go to the local parlor and browse their catalogs, which are large and unwieldy.
2. Hope that I find something I like. Even when there are dozens of catalogs, there might not be anything that I really like.
3. Hope the artist has already done the tattoo that I like, or that he is a killer artist who can get it right without screwing up.
Now, it may still be like that for many of you. If it is, that’s too bad. The internet has made it easier than ever to browse other people’s tattoos, and see what you like. But then you still have the problem of actually getting that tattoo done right. If you see a photo of some guy with a sleeve that you really want, how do you make sure the artist gets it right?
Sure, he can draw it up, and hopefully he gets it right. And if you’re lucky, he’ll even have the equipment to print out the “decal” that goes on your skin before he gets to work. But I’ve been in plenty of shops where they don’t even have this.
You know what people end up with?
Ugly, regrettable ink (like below). Thankfully, this was NOT my tattoo!

My first tattoo was, admittedly, immature. I wanted a demon babe cutting herself out of my skin with a flaming sword. I went to a parlor and asked the artist to draw it up. The original sketch was awesome. He assured me that he could transfer the design to my skin perfectly.
The tattoo was awful. I thought I was getting something I would be proud to show off. But instead, I try to hide the tattoo and forget that it’s there. Sure, I could undergo expensive tattoo removal, but I like to keep it there as a reminder.
I waited for years before I got my next tattoo. I was afraid that I would have a similar experience, and I just didn’t want to deal with another ugly tat.
But then I found out about chopper tattoo, and I was really interested. I took some time to look at their sample galleries and really understand how the system works, and then I signed up for a membership.
Let me tell you: if they had this system when I got my first tat, I wouldn’t be embarrassed by it.
How does Chopper Tattoo work, and what makes it so awesome?
1. Browse their selection of thousands of tattoos, including:
a. Tribal tattoos
b. Classic tattoos
c. Tattoos for women
d. Asian tattoos
e. Custom Lettering
2. Use their system to find a nearby tattoo parlor that is highly rated
3. Print your tattoo design, take it to the parlor, and have him turn it into a “decal.”
4. Get the perfect tattoo for yourself.

It’s so much easier and more convenient than the old methods. And the coolest thing is that this site has a lot of different styles of designs. They are also always updating their database, adding new artists and designs almost daily.
Since I discovered Chopper Tattoo, I’m totally addicted to getting new ink. I am in the parlor weekly, and I have shared the secret with many people. The tattoo artist I found through their system knows what he’s doing, and my tattoos look perfect.
Remember that ugly tattoo I mentioned?
I showed it to my tattoo artist and asked him what we could do. It wasn’t very busy, so we each cracked open a beer and logged on to Chopper Tattoo and looked for a good design that would cover it up. Within about thirty minutes we had something great and planned to cover it up.
The old tattoo is gone, and the new one is amazing.
The coolest part about Chopper Tattoo is that you can access it whenever you want, as often as you want. You sign up, log in, and pick your favorite designs.
UPDATE: October 6, 2011
DO NOT SIGN UP WITHOUT READING THIS FIRST!!! If you did, I am so sorry I never mentioned it!
I just got an email with someone who had a question about something I didn’t cover. She wanted to know if the site contained a monthly recurring fee, or if there was a short term membership she could use.
When you sign up for chopper tattoo, you can gain access to the gallery for 30 days, 60 days, or for life. So, if you are tight on cash and only want to take a quick look for a month, you can do that. IF you aren’t going too go crazy with tattoos (like me) and just want to spend some time looking at a couple of different ideas, they have a two month membership, too.
But even if you fall into either of those categories, the lifetime membership is less than $35 bucks, which is a lot less than some of these yuppies pay for their mega-frappa-dappa-cinos. You just can’t go wrong.
